How Pureology saved my hair
The year was 2015, and I kept seeing the no-shampoo trend (also called no-poo) all over the internet. It basically said to not ever shampoo your hair and to use nothing but apple cider vinegar on your scalp. At first I was a bit grossed out by the idea of not washing my hair at all… but it was supposed to do wonders. I thought “What’s the worst that could happen… If it’s all over the internet it must be legit right?” I decided to try it. (Worst.idea.ever.)
After a few weeks of not washing my hair (except with the occasional apple cider vinegar), it had become a complete tangled mess, like a bird nest was sitting on my head. It was dull as ever, my scalp was oily, and my ends were drier than the Atacama desert (Google it, it’s the driest place on Earth.) It made me lose my confidence, and so my hair was always tied in a bun, because there wasn’t much else I could do with it. One day, I decided it was over.
I went to a store that sells hair products with hopes to find something that would help get it back to normal. The stylist showed me the Pureology section and she vouched for it like it was the holy grail. I was slightly skeptical because the bottle said it was for colored hair and mine was all natural. She said it was what I needed, so I went back home with my two purple bottles of the Hydrate shampoo & conditioner.
The first time I washed my hair after that whole no-shampoo disaster, I was immediately charmed by the smell and the texture of Pureology. Washing my hair felt like a luxurious experience. After a few times, there was no more bird’s nest on top of my head. I was now washing my hair every 2 days and I was seeing it slowly go back to normal and eventually become even better than it was before.
Fast forward to today
This story happened 7 years ago. As we speak, I’m still using the Pureology Hydrate shampoo & conditioner. I’ve tried other products over the years, because I like to experiment (obviously), but I always go back to Pureology. I also added the Hydrate superfood treatment mask to my routine, that I use once or twice a week when I want that extra luscious mane and also to keep my hair well moisturized.
To finish off, I spray on the Color Fanatic Multi-tasking Hair Beautifier. I use it on damp hair after a wash before blowdrying my hair or even when I let it air dry. It’s a dream product with so many benefits (21 precisely):
- Helps preserve color vibrancy
